Chopper Squadron

Chopper Squadron

Life-sized DUPLO helicopters that can rise a considerable height and rotate on the spot: an interesting concept for a ride, and it works! Names 'Whirly Birds' for the first 10 years of its life (a much more endearing name and theme in my humble opinion), Chopper Squadron has been in the park since it opened, and is a firm favourite with young children.

What is it?

  • A helicopter ride
  • Opened March 1996
  • 2 guests per chopper

What does it do?

Once firmly locked in, the ride is entirely controlled by you! There are two levers in front of the riders: one makes the chopper move up and down, whilst the other rotates it left and right. The controls are active for around two minutes, after which the choppers return to terra-firma and the saftey bar is released.

Restrictions?

  • Must be a minimum of 0.9m tall to ride
  • Guests under 1.3m tall must be accompanied by an adult

Verdict?

Aimed at the very young, Chopper Squadren succeeds in thrilling its target audience. There is just something about being able to control your ride that is very appealing to children, and this ride gets it right. Take note, though: if you're above a certain age (and indeed waist measurement - the lap bars aren't particularly forgiving!) this ride isn't for you.
