A new scheme is letting foster families enjoy LEGOLAND Windsor for free this season.

50 foster families have been sent free Annual Passes to enjoy the park throughout the 2012 season, as part of an arrangement between LEGOLAND Windsor and Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council (RBWM).

The concept was imagined by Councillor Christine Bateson, who is the chair of the area's corporate parenting forum. Talking about the arrangement, she has said:

We are extremely fortunate to have one of the country's top tourist attractions right here in the Royal Borough for people of all ages to enjoy. But in these difficult economic times it is not always easy for families to afford to take day trips to theme parks - and it is particularly difficult for foster carers who also have children of their own to consider in planning family days out. So I am delighted that we have been able to work with LEGOLAND to give our foster carers the opportunity to enjoy some quality, fun time together as a family - as well as demonstrating that we are fulfilling our corporate parenting responsibilities to some of the more vulnerable members of our community.

Cabinet member for children's services, Councillor Eileen Quick, has also said:

All our foster carers do a fantastic job of looking after children going through difficult times in their young lives. We do everything we can to support families taking on this very worthwhile role and already provide a varied programme of social activities and opportunities for carers to share experiences. Hopefully this new partnership will go some way to acknowledging the valuable and selfless work done by them all - as well as helping to boost our recruitment and retention even further.

Finally, Geoff Spooner, who is Operations Director at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, has said:

We are delighted to be working with the Royal Borough on this initiative and to be able to provide this fantastic offer to its foster families. We are sure the scheme will prove extremely popular and will provide families with the opportunity to experience more than 55 rides and attractions including our amazing new for 2012 LEGO Star Wars Miniland Experience.
