Sky Rider
If you're not easy with heights, you might want to avoid Sky Rider. Otherwise, pick a quiet moment during your day and hop aboard for excellent views of the park!
What is it?
- A modified Premiere Rides Intelligent Pedal Rail
- An elevated track ride
- Opened March 1996; refurbished between the 2001 and 2002 seasons
- Up to three guests per car
- Q-Bot reservations available
What does it do?
With the vehicles slowed to a crawl (but not stopped, except for guests unable to board the moving cars), you board your car and the safety bar is lowered. On leaving the station, the car speeds up and takes you autonomously around the track, which has gentle bumps and turns. From the track, you get fantastic views of Miniland, as well as certain other areas of the park.
Restrictions?
- Must be a minimum of 0.9m tall to ride
- Guests under 1.3m tall must be accompanied by an adult
- Must be no fewer than two and no more than three guests per vehicle, with a maximum of two adults
Verdict?
Being one of the first rides you come across as you descend through the park, queues for Sky Rider are often very long for mornings and much of the afternoons. Come the end of the day, however, and you can usually get on the ride within 10 or so minutes. Sky Rider offers superb views of the park on sunny days, and is definitely worth a ride, though if anything the duration is quite short (for now... see the future section below!). If there is no queue, ask the ride attendants if you can have a second ride without disembarking - you will no doubt spot some gems that you missed the first time around. Finally, don't forget to take your camera, but make sure it's firmly attached to your person!
The Future?
In 2009 LEGOLAND Windsor applied for planning permission to extend the Sky Rider track to actually travel over and around Miniland. Details are sketchy right now, and timescales unknown, but as soon as Completely LEGOLAND Windsor has more information, you can be sure that it will be posted here!
